Gigastrand commits to the development of Gigastrand OS 4.0 and adds a modular custom software platform.
Gigastrand OS 3.2 Desktop
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – June 29, 2016 – PRLog — Gigastrand, the developer of the Gigastrand OS, has announced the target release date for the Gigastrand OS v4.0 of September 1, 2016. This release will include an updated codebase and a modular platform for customizing the software on the PC for a specific purpose.
“This is going to be a more polished version of Gigastrand OS than we have done before,” explains Gigastrand CEO Josh Tordsen. “We are looking at v4.0 being more of a customizable platform designed to tailor the system to the user’s specific use.”
Tordsen describes a modular system whereby the base OS is purchased and then additional modules can be installed to easily customize the system to fit a specific purpose or set of purposes.
“Gigastrand NVR is one of those modules that we are including with Gigastrand OS v3.2. It turns a normal computer into a video security server. It is great to have a system be a little bit of something to everyone, but to be able to take that jack of all trades system and customize it for the end user simply and efficiently is the next step in development.”
Gigastrand OS has enjoyed some major milestones in the last year. In the last 6 months of 2015, no less than 100% of the computer systems sold were Gigastrand OS PCs. The OS has been downloaded over 10,000 times and recidivism rates (users going back to their original OS) since v1.0 on conversions, new and used PCs is less than 5%.
“Gigastrand OS has been very popular because people tend to stick with it,” says Tordsen. “I think because we keep it simple and make it work. We don’t make major changes to how the OS works and at the same time we are there to support our users when they do need it. We are firm believers in if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.”
Pre-orders will be available in July at http://gigastrand.com .
